Sparkle Awards $500 College Scholarships To Our First High School Graduates

(August 27, 2014 – Valley Stream, NY) Sparkle Empowerment Program for Girls is proud to announce that it has awarded two $500 college scholarships to its first two high school graduates this year.  Both Kristen Spencer and Courtney Ofeimun have completed the empowerment program in high regard.

Both young ladies are 2014 graduates of Valley Stream's Central High School.  Kristen is attending Stonybrook University where she will major in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Theater, and Courtney is attending Hofstra University where she will major in Biomedical Engineering and minor in Business Management & Marketing.

"I am extremely proud of these ladies because they are true examples of the members in our organization who sparkle with potential and future success," says Kimberly Thomas, founder and Executive Director of Talented Youth Development, Inc., the program that created Sparkle.  "These two girls worked hard over the last few years in their communities as volunteers, founded clubs in their school, and were both true role models in and outside of the program."

The purpose of Sparkle is to develop middle and high school aged girl's leadership qualities, encourage volunteerism, promote self-esteem, while exposing the participants to philanthropy, and educational opportunities.  Some of the programs the girls have participated in include Art of Perception Self-Expression Workshop,
Dove Movement for Self Esteem, Future Leader’s Luncheon, Mentor Appreciation Lunch, Miss University Mentoring Workshop, Pretty in Pink Breast Cancer & Scholarship Fundraiser, and Resume Writing Workshop for Students.
