Master Class: Oprah Winfrey

Taken from
Watching the new OWN network may not exactly be at the top of a teens preferred TV choices, but I think every teen should tune in to watch "Master Class," featuring OWN's very own Oprah Winfrey.  This one hour episode can do more for you life and future than watching "Jersey Shore" or today's latest videos.  At six years old, Oprah wasn't allowed to come into her own house.  Wouldn't that kill a little girl's self-esteem?  Wouldn't that kill anybody's self-esteem? My heart breaks just knowing this happened to one of the most successful women in the world at such an impressionable age.  A high school friend of mine was locked out of her own home during her sophomore year which totally killed her self-esteem and put her on  fast track to teen pregnancy and homelessness.  Her mother was mentally ill but thank God my friend found her way back to a steady life through the help of friends.
I recommend that teens sit down and watch this two-part series on OWN.  You can watch the repeat of Part 1 on Friday, April 1st at 10 p.m.  Part 2 airs next Sunday at 9 p.m.  One of the many quotes from Oprah that struck me was the following:

"The essence of who I am has nothing to do with what I look like." - Oprah Winfrey
